Organization Overview:

In Norfolk, we are at great risk of being at the forefront of problems caused by climate change because we are a low-lying county with a large coastal area. This means that everyone’s day-to-day lives will be impacted by what decisions we make individually and collectively now. Low Carbon Norfolk is a resource website for you. It aims to help make living in Norfolk that little bit more eco-friendly, through money-saving tips that not only benefit you, the individual, but the world we live in too.

Abstract

This paper introduces a special issue of Local Environment that has arisen through collaboration between academic researchers and the Urban Planning and Design Branch of UN-Habitat, focused on how we can understand and respond to the challenges of urban vulnerability, adaptation and resilience in the context of climate change. The paper establishes the existing state of the art in the field, and considers critical challenges that are emerging in the research-based literature.

Organization Overview:

Oxfam is an international confederation of 17 organizations networked together in more than 90 countries, as part of a global movement for change, to build a future free from the injustice of poverty. We work directly with communities and we seek to influence the powerful to ensure that poor people can improve their lives and livelihoods and have a say in decisions that affect them.

Our Vision

Adaptation work:

Oxfam is working to help people adapt to the effects of climate change.

Our experience as a development and emergency relief organization is instrumental in assisting communities to build their resilience to more frequent and extreme droughts, floods and weather events. We do this through new technologies, diversifying livelihoods, disaster risk reduction and by helping people organize themselves to get help and determine solutions.
