Fire in the Apostle Islands Lakeshore: How Paleoecology Can Inform Ecological Stewardship of Pine Forest & Barrens Communities

Event Type: Online
Start Date:
End Date:

Paleoecology can provide ecological and historical context to inform discussions of ecological stewardship, by providing insight into how disturbances, especially fire, can either stabilize or promote change under changing climatic conditions.

In our November Science Seminar, Dr. Bob Booth of Lehigh University will present results from a collaborative project that used palaeoecological approaches to help inform discussions about the role of fire in managing an ecologically and culturally important pine-dominated landscape on Wiisaakodewan-minis (Stockton Island) in the Apostle Islands National Lakeshore of Wisconsin.
