Your Duties

The Laurel, MD office of Stantec is seeking a Mid-Level Structural Engineer to join our community resilience team. The selected candidate will support efforts related to structural analysis, building code review, flood hardening and safe shelter design. 

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Civil Engineering or a related B.S. degree
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.)
  • Background in structural design for wood, masonry, concrete or steel structures
  • Interest in disaster resilience of structures
  • Excellent communication and technical writing skills
  • Willingness to work in a dynamic team environment with both daily and long-term assignments
  • Interest in Resilient Design, Climate Change Analysis and Sustainability Initiatives

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with ASCE 7 minimum design loads for buildings and other structures and ASCE 24 flood resistant design and construction
  • Background in safe shelter design and best available refuge area assessments
  • Experience with FEMA P-55 Coastal Construction
  • Demonstrate knowledge of modes of building failures caused by natural disasters which may include high winds, flooding, seismic, or fire
  • Working knowledge of Revit drafting software
  • Experience with structural design software such as RAM, RISA, or similar programs
  • Working knowledge of GIS software including ArcGIS
