| The Institute for Global Environmental Strategies (IGES) conducts interdisciplinary policy research to support sustainable development in the Asia-Pacific region. To propose effective policy recommendations to various stakeholders in the region, IGES intends to recruit capable research staff with extensive knowledge and experience concerning various studies and activities IGES plans to carry out in the Fifth Phase Strategic Research Programme http://www.iges.or.jp/en/about_project/index.html started from April 2010. |

Programme Management Office Recruitment for Regular Researcher position
|
| The IGES Programme Management Office (PMO) conducts research activity planning and coordination from a panoramic, strategic viewpoint, and at the same time, carries out cross-cutting research and studies. It collaborates with other research institutes, governments, international organisations, NGOs, the business community, and major international networks, and works to effectively promote activities to realise sustainable development. In addition, by participating in important international policy processes, it gains an understanding of crucial policy trends and research needs, and disseminates IGES research results and policy recommendations in a timely manner, thereby giving international-level promotion and support to policy formulation and implementation. |

1. Recruited Position: One Senior Coordinator/Principal Researcher for International Networking and Civil Society (or One Associate Researcher) |

Main focus: International networking and promotion of civil-society/public participation |

Main activity: Conduct strategic policy research and develop policy recommendations |

2. Qualifications |
| - |
Conduct studies on public participation, empowerment of civil societies and access to environmental information in Asia, in collaboration with the Governance and Capacity Group of IGES and other groups concerned |
| - |
Promote networking and joint activities among civil society organizations in Asia and the Pacific |
| - |
Work with international organizations active in Asia and the Pacific, such as ADB, UNEP and UNESCAP, in promoting joint studies and activities |
| - |
Represent IGES in a number of important international gatherings and meetings to promote IGES products and activities |
| - |
Need significant experiences in and broad knowledge about climate change (adaptation and mitigation) as well as other global environmental issues |

Fluent both in English and Japanese |

3. Employment contract |
|
Regular Researcher: September 2011 to 31 March 2013 with a probationary period and possible contract renewal
Associate Researcher: September 2011 to 31 March 2012 with a probationary period and possible contract renewal

Discretionary Work System for Regular Researcher
9:30-18:00 for Associate Researcher |

Holidays:
Saturdays and Sundays, the end and the beginning of the year (29, 30, 31 of December and 2, 3 of January) and national holidays |

Annual vacation, special holidays including summer holidays |

Salary:
Annual salary system for Regular Researcher
Monthly salary system with biannual bonus for Associate Researcher(Bonus will be provided in June and December in each fiscal year starting from April)
* Salary is determined by IGES regulations, taking into consideration the employee's research career, achievements, occupational history, expertise and experience |

Allowances:
Allowances(commuting, housing, retirement) will be provided in accordance with the internal rule of IGES. |

Insurance:
Insurance (health, employee pension, unemployment and workers’ accident compensation) will be partly covered by IGES. |

Travel expenses:
Travel expenses for relocation/return trips will be covered by IGES. |
