Mission/Vision Statement
The Massachusetts Bays Program (MBP) was designated as an “estuary of national significance” under the National Estuary Program in 1990. The mission of the MBP is to protect, enhance, and maintain the health and heritage of the 50 coastal communities within Massachusetts and Cape Cod Bays by protecting and enhancing coastal habitat; reducing and preventing stormwater pollution; protecting and enhancing shellfish resources; managing local land use and growth; managing marine invasive species; monitoring marine waters; and adapting for the projected impacts of climate change.
