Organization Overview:

Round River Conservation Studies is a [501(c) (3)] ecologically-oriented research and education organization founded in 1991 and dedicated to the formulation and accomplishment of bioregionally based conservation strategies for the preservation and restoration of wild places. From Aldo Leopold's essay Round River, we take our name and the assurance that ecological study both aids a personal land ethic and collective community wisdom for conservation. Round River believes wildness to be the vital characteristic for vibrant communities, both human and non-human. Round River strives to develop and support traditions that allow us to live within ecosystems in ways that sustain wildness, and do not threaten wild biological communities. To achieve these commitments, Round River balances academic training with applied field research, policy dialogues and community planning activities. Round River employs the principles and methods of conservation biology designed to create a well-founded basis for long term planning. Within each project Round River staff and students work closely with and assist local groups, grassroot and international conservation organizations and government agencies.
