Abstract

This report summarizes the results of a two-day adaptation planning workshop for the Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forests as part of their forest plan revision process. The workshop focused on identifying adaptation options for eight key resource areas, including forested vegetation, non-forested vegetation, wildlife, hydrology, fisheries, recreation, cultural/heritage values, and ecosystem services. The report includes a general overview of the workshop methodology and provides a suite of possible adaptation strategies and actions for each key resource area.

Abstract

This report summarizes the results of a vulnerability assessment for 28 focal resources, including 8 ecosystems and 20 species, identified as important by Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forests as part of their forest plan revision process. The report includes a general summary of past and projected climate trends for the region; downscaled climate data and trends; vulnerability assessment methods; and vulnerability assessment findings for 28 ecosystems and species.

Project Summary

The Southern California Climate Adaptation Project was initiated to improve understanding about the vulnerability of important southern California habitats to climate change and to develop adaptation strategies designed to reduce vulnerabilities and/or increase resilience of habitats. This project used a collaborative, stakeholder-driven process that involved soliciting input from land and resource managers, conservation practitioners, scientists, and others from federal and state agencies, universities, and nongovernmental organizations.

Abstract

The Climate Change in Colorado report is a synthesis of climate science relevant for management and planning for Colorado’s water resources. It focuses on observed climate trends, climate modeling, and projections of temperature, precipitation, snowpack, and streamflow. The 2014 report is a thorough revision and expansion of the 2008 report of the same name, also produced by WWA in partnership with the Colorado Water Conservation Board (CWCB).

Abstract

Climate already affects a variety of resources managed by Boulder County, the City of Boulder, and other local municipalities. As an example, prolonged dry spells in the past decade have contributed to major wildfires on public lands that have threatened lives, impacted public health, damaged county and city property and infrastructure, and caused accelerated hill slope erosion that has polluted streams and water supplies. Resource managers working at county departments and throughout other jurisdictions already face challenges posed by the variability of climate across Boulder County.

Abstract

Here, we provide guidelines for doing a simple and rapid climate impact assessment for any number of management objectives. Such a rapid assessment focuses on identifying major climate trends and potential impacts using existing expertise and a few key web resources. We have based these guidelines on the Adaptation for Conservation Targets (ACT) framework (Cross et al., 2012). The assessment could be conducted over the course of a one- or two-day workshop.

Abstract

The Rocky Mountain Climate Organization (RMCO) undertook the Colorado Climate Project to bring Coloradans together to reduce the state’s contribution and vulnerability to climate change. The project was inspired by and patterned after similar efforts undertaken by state governments around the country.
