Bald Head Island Conservancy

Overview

The Bald Head Island Conservancy is a non-profit organization founded in 1983 whose mission is to protect, preserve and promote the natural environment of the SmithIslandcomplex. This unique area includes Bald Head, Middle and BluffIslands, all of which are bounded by the Cape Fear Riverand the Atlantic Oceanin southeastern North Carolina.  In its role as the islands' environmental advocate, the Bald Head Island Conservancy sponsors and facilitates scientific research of benefit to this barrier island environment, and it provides diverse activities to enrich and enlighten the islands' many visitors and residents.  As a subsidiary corporation and partner of the Conservancy, The Smith Island Land Trust complements these efforts by preserving significant properties in perpetuity, ensuring that land within the island complex will be forever protected in its natural state.
