Adaptation Work:What is the Adaptation Platform?
The Adaptation Platform brings together key groups from government, industry and professional organizations, to collaborate on adaptation priorities. By providing the structure to pool knowledge, capacity and financial resources, the Platform aims to get work on adaptation done, and to ensure the results of that work, such as information, tools and recommendations, reach the right audiences.
Why was the Adaptation Platform developed?
A changing climate presents a wide range of risks and opportunities, which cut across regions, sectors and disciplines. Our economy, infrastructure, industries, health and social well-being are already being impacted, and these impacts will continue in future. Adapting to these impacts requires engaging and involving key players, to work together towards the shared goals of reducing vulnerability, managing risks, and preparing for potential opportunities.
The Adaptation Platform was built to promote collaboration among those who have a collective stake and role to play in making Canada more climate-resilient. This includes governments, industry, organizations and professionals. By collaborating, we are better able to:
- determine shared priorities and address them effectively;
- address issues that cross jurisdictions and affect multiple sectors of the economy;
- use our resources efficiently;
- share data, expertise and experience; and avoid unintended negative consequences of adaptation.
The overarching goal of the Adaptation Platform is to create an enabling environment for adaptation, where decision-makers in regions and key industries are equipped with the tools and information they need to adapt to a changing climate.
