Overview

The Sustainable Solutions Lab (SSL) at UMass Boston is dedicated to understanding the disproportionate impacts of climate change on vulnerable populations and working with them to develop sustainable and equitable solutions.

Without climate justice research designed and conducted in partnership with marginalized communities, adaptation efforts may exacerbate existing inequities and negatively impact society’s resilience as a whole. 

As a respected source of expertise on both climate and social equity, and with faculty who are seen as trusted partners in the marginalized communities that are most vulnerable to climate change, UMass Boston is well-positioned to address this knowledge gap. 

SSL is stitching these previously siloed areas of expertise into an interdisciplinary approach and fostering new relationships across fields in order to better address these extremely complex and interconnected challenges and catalyze change.
