Carrie Kappel

Associate Project Scientist

As a researcher at the National Center for Ecological Analysis and Synthesis and UC Santa Barbara, I'm working to quantify the ways humans depend upon and impact marine species and ecosystems; understand the spatial distribution of ecological and human components of ecosystems in order to inform conservation and management; and develop ways to integrate biophysical and socioeconomic data to support decision-making. I did my PhD at Stanford University in marine community ecology and conservation biology. I currently lead a project aimed at integrating our growing understanding of tipping points in marine ecosystems into decision making tools to enhance resource management.
