I work for Berkshire Environmental Action Team (BEAT). We protect the environment for wildlife. Some of the key adaptation strategies we are working on are: 1) assessing stream crossings (bridges and culverts) to be sure fish and wildlife - as well as high water flows - can pass safely under our transportation networks. 2) advocating for changing the standards for post-development (and post-redevelopment) run-off to be the same as the run-off that would occur if the site were forested. (Not just post- development being the same as "pre" development.) 3) Disconnect storm water pipes from our wetlands and waterways. 4) Protect headwater streams - these small, intermittent streams often make up a huge percentage of the stream-miles in a watershed and they provide nutrients to the whole system; not to mention they often support very different flora and fauna from the rest of the system.
