Mr. Marc Nelitz is a Senior Systems Ecologist and Adaptive Management Lead working in Vancouver, BC with ESSA Technologies Ltd. He works in the domain of climate change adaptation focused on water science and management in basins across North America. His passions include applying his analytical skills in systems analysis with participatory engagement to improve the management of natural resources in complex social-ecological systems. His experience in climate change adaptation spans a breadth of scales which includes examining problems and developing solutions at the national, provincial, and community levels.
Recent and notable assignments have included working with: (1) First Nations communities to blend traditional knowledge and western science in climate change adaptation planning; (2) community organizations to enhance climate resilience of urban infrastructure, (3) watershed organizations to summarize the state of practice in adaptation and provide recommendations for improvements in Canada; (4) provincial-territorial agencies to prepare a compendium and guidebook of tools for vulnerability assessment of watersheds; and (5) local decision makers and scientists to understand vulnerability of freshwater ecosystems to climate change.
Marc holds a Bachelor of Science from the University of British Columbia and a Master's of Resource and Environmental Management from Simon Fraser University.
