Prepared for Environmental Change Webinar: Using Greenspace and Vegetation as an Adaptation Strategy
Feb 13, 2019 12:00 PM in Eastern Time (US and Canada)
Across Indiana and the Midwest, precipitation is increasing during the winter and spring and occurring in heavier downpours. Large rainfalls and rain that leads to snowmelt increases flooding risks, including flash floods. Many cities, towns and rural areas have prioritized the use of greenspace, rain gardens and bioswales as an effective adaptation strategy. This webinar will review the City of Gary’s comprehensive green infrastructure plan and data collection and mapping efforts underway in other Midwestern cities to increase community-wide understanding of related costs and benefits.
