The Climate Education and Engagement Coordinator (Coordinator) works collaboratively with a diverse set of partners to coordinate projects focused on advancing climate literacy, capacity building, and community outreach.

Working directly with the Alliance’s Director of Education and Engagement, this position provides programmatic and administrative support for Climate Science Alliance education and community engagement efforts including but not limited to Climate Kids programming in the U.S., Mexico, Caribbean, and Tribal Nations. The Coordinator assists staff in a wide variety of climate resilience planning, projects, and outreach activities focused on advancing climate literacy and community engagement tied to regional climate science and solutions. In addition, this position supports the creation and implementation of workshops, training, and curriculum, and is responsible for contributing to climate science education and dissemination strategies.

The Climate Education and Engagement Coordinator will report to the Director of Education and Engagement and will advance climate literacy through 4 primary focal areas:

  1. Developing and sustaining climate education resources within the Climate Science Alliance, including project management and organizational support of the Climate Kids portfolio.
  2. Organizing educator, youth, and community events and activities
  3. Building and sustaining relationships with local educators, including formal, informal, and Tribal educators
  4. Provide program and organizational support

Responsibilities:

Developing and sustaining climate education resources within Climate Science Alliance (30%)

  • Support the Director of Education and Engagement with implementation of the long-term strategic vision for Climate Kids projects across the U.S., Mexico, Caribbean, and California Tribal Nations.
  • Identify opportunities for new and impactful education projects or programs.
  • Support testing and implementation of NASA sea level rise (SEAL) educational programming, including coordinating with SEAL Ambassadors.
  • Actively increase platforms to support diversity, access, and inclusion within and across the organization, our partners, and our products including Spanish-language programming.
  • Integrate a range of communication styles and outputs into education resources to communicate to different targeted audiences (e.g., integration of art).
  • Manage and maintain youth engagement programs including curriculum and activity development, assembly programs, project-based learning, and ambassador initiatives.
  • Support creation and distribution of Climate Kids’ programmatic information through blog posts, newsletters, press releases, web updates, reports, and other social media related to educator, youth and community outreach activities.

Organizing educator, youth and community events & activities (30%)

  • Support the staffing, coordination and content of all Earth Day events and activities, including leading the outreach table at these events
  • Support the implementation of educator trainings
  • Identify new opportunities for educator trainings
  • Lead the implementation of one direct-to-youth event or activity per quarter
  • Support planning and execution of community centered Climate Science Alliance events
  • Work closely with other staff members to integrate educators and youth into Climate Science Alliance events and activities
  • Support logistical and operational planning of Climate Kids events

Building and sustaining relationships with local educators, including formal, informal and Tribal educators (20%)

  • Support and help identify the needs of Climate Kids partners and hubs in the Caribbean, Mexico, Tribal Nations and other US locations
  • Assist with compiling resources for formal and informal educators and work collaboratively to create and implement training to advance climate literacy with formal and informal educators
  • Work collaboratively to identify and develop strategic opportunities for outreach and community engagement on various projects that advance our commitment to climate literacy
  • Lead the building of a Climate Science Alliance educator network

Provide program and organizational support (20%)

  • Oversee project management, tracking, and reporting for assigned projects and activities.
  • Develop individual work plans to meet goals and deliverables for Climate Science Alliance projects and grants.
  • Engage in professional endeavors to effectively represent the organization such as conference attendance, training, and workshops, public speaking engagements, coursework, etc.
  • Work collaboratively to develop, support, and execute Climate Science Alliance organizational events and activities.

Qualifications:

The Climate Education and Engagement Coordinator is a professional position within the Climate Science Alliance and is expected to possess or be willing to learn the necessary knowledge and skills to coordinate day-to-day activities required of this position.

The minimum required qualifications include:

  • 18 - 26 years old
  • Able to work in person
  • Reliable transportation to the office and events
  • Experience in education settings
