Description: The MD/DC Chapter’s Resilient Coasts Program implements science-based strategies to improve the climate resilience of coastal habitats and communities. The Coastal Adaptation Scientist provides coastal habitat resilience expertise, science leadership, and practical experience in collaborative coastal management as a core member of the Resilient Coasts Program Team. They will advance the Program’s body of work by leading priority coastal habitat science and management projects. They will build collaborative partnerships to develop innovative research, restoration, and management initiatives that advance coastal habitat migration and community resilience. The position is located in Easton, MD.

The Coastal Adaptation Scientist advances coastal habitat restoration and management approaches through applied science research on Maryland’s Eastern Shore. They innovate and demonstrate marsh management best practices and nature-based solutions to preserve coastal habitats and reduce flooding in coastal communities. They work collaboratively with the Resilient Coasts Team and external academic, government, non-profit, and private partners to develop projects that advance coastal habitat migration and resilience. The Coastal Adaptation Scientist conducts research and monitoring, records and analyzes data, writes and publishes reports, presents findings, and drafts grant proposals to advance the Program’s coastal management goals. They consider the diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice implications of coastal conservation work.
