Position Summary

The Director of Coastal Resilience will shape, lead, manage and implement strategies and actions to advance Audubon’s mission and conservation objectives. Reporting to the Vice President for Coastal Conservation, the (Senior) Director is a key member of the conservation and policy team, in Washington D.C. and will be responsible for leading policy strategies and supporting implementation of on the ground conservation efforts with an emphasis on issues related to coastal resilience and natural infrastructure.

Essential Functions

 

  • Lead in developing and implementing Audubon’s policy goals and objectives for coastal resilience in both the short- and long-term, including identifying potential legislative and administrative priorities, opportunities and risks;

  • Set policy goals for and work with inter-departmental campaign teams to develop advocacy strategies and accomplish policy priorities;

  • Advocate to and develop strong working relationships with members of the U.S. Congress and their senior staff, congressional committees, and federal agencies in order to communicate Audubon priorities as well as negotiate and influence policy outcomes that advance our coastal resilience and natural infrastructure goals;

  • Raise the profile and visibility of Audubon as a leader in coastal resilience policy and represent Audubon with national issue-based coalitions and partner organizations, monitoring their developments and contributing to coalition-based legislative and administrative efforts;

  • Provide leadership, direction, and support to Audubon conservation program staff, assisting them to identify policy opportunities, funding sources and partnerships that advance the organization’s conservation priorities;

  • Promote an organizational culture and structure that fosters cooperation, communication, collaboration, teamwork, and trust;

  • Serve as an articulate, enthusiastic, and visible spokesperson for Audubon and senior leader of the organization;

  • Perform other duties as assigned.
