Fellowship - California Climate Action Corps

California continues to lead the nation in climate action. Last fall, we launched the California Climate Action Corps (CCAC) to create and highlight opportunities for all Californians to get involved. We are recruiting for the CCAC Fellowship and still have open positions for the 2021-2022 term starting in November.

CCAC Fellows serve full-time for 11-months while gaining valuable experience, mentorship, and training. Fellows will be placed with host partner organizations across the state where they will:

  • Learn real-world climate action skills through organizing community action, education and assessment projects.
  • Receive a newly increased stipend of $27,000 and scholarship of $10,000 upon completion of the full term of service.
  • Be part of a community and statewide force of emerging leaders.

Position Overview

Selected Fellows will be AmeriCorps members serving 1700+ hours over eleven months from November 1, 2021 through September 30, 2022. Fellows will support community climate action, education, or assessment projects in five target cities of Fresno, Stockton, San Jose, Redlands, and Los Angeles, as well as other areas of the state. As a Climate Action Corps Fellow you will have:

  • A chance to learn real-world climate action skills through community action projects. 
  • An opportunity to serve with a local government, Tribe, nonprofit, college or university committed to taking action on climate change where you will be provided support for the implementation of your service projects.
  • An opportunity to be part of this unique program, community, and statewide force of emerging leaders.

Qualifications

  • AmeriCorps Requirements
    • Be a citizen, national, or lawful permanent resident of the United States*
    • Ability to pass FBI, CA Department of Justice, out-of-state (if applicable), and National Sex Offender Public Registry background checks prior to service
  • Climate Action Corps Requirements
    • At least 18 years of age
    • Associates degree or above, and/or relevant experience
    • Commitment to the full term of service (1700+ hours)
    • Capability to work in a professional office or field setting (some virtual placements may be available)
    • Strong communication (both verbal and written) and teamwork skills
  • Strongly Preferred
    • Past service experience (e.g., volunteering, community service, etc.)
    • Experience with, or training in, outreach, facilitation and/or education 
    • Being local to the community you will serve in

Compensation & Benefits

Climate Action Corps Summer Fellows will receive the following benefits during their service term:

  • $27,000 Living Allowance (before taxes) spread evenly over 11 months
  • $10,000 combined Segal Education Award and California For All Education Award (upon completion of service)
  • SNAP (Food Stamps) – for those eligible
  • Forbearance on existing qualifying student loans and payment of interest accrued during service 
  • Health Insurance
  • Child care assistance to qualifying Fellows, paid to an eligible provider of your choice
