Programme Officer - Deep-Ocean Stewardship Initiative (DOSI)
We are looking for a Programme Officer to support the ongoing work of the well-established Deep-Ocean Stewardship Initiative (DOSI). DOSI works to integrate science, technology, policy, law and economics to advise on ecosystem-based management and strategies to maintain the integrity of deep-ocean ecosystems. The Programme Officer will be an integral member of the DOSI team, supporting day-to-day management and operations and the delivery of activities, liaising with the DOSI Core Team and beyond.
With funding from Arcadia, a charitable fund of Lisbet Rausing and Peter Baldwin, Dr Maria Baker is leading this global collaborative network with the aim to further advance science-based stewardship of the deep ocean, both within and beyond national jurisdiction.
Working closely with Dr Maria Baker, you will be expected to lead on many of the administrative aspects of the programme. In addition, you will provide support in translation of deep-sea research to a variety of audiences, internal and external communications including ocean literacy, partnership and network development and knowledge-exchange and capacity development activities and projects.
You will be able to work well independently and as part of our team, in liaison with colleagues in the global DOSI network, the University of Southampton, and collaborating organisations. You will need to have or gain understanding of research and university administrative procedures and systems. Working at a senior level, you will be expected to use your initiative and judgement to resolve daily problems and interpret what is needed to support the programme. Strong communication and organisation skills, and attention to detail, are essential. Experience of helping to coordinate a large network of volunteers, communicating science to stakeholders including policy makers, and the ability to organise meetings, take minutes and share results are all highly-desirable attributes. Experience of using WordPress, Mailchimp, Twitter, LinkedIn and Facebook are also desirable.
Please be sure to include a cover letter with your application, in addition to your CV or resume. Also submit a short example of your ability to translate deep-sea research to engage a public audience as this skill will be necessary to support our external communications.
You should submit your completed online application form at https://jobs.soton.ac.uk. The application deadline will be midnight on the closing date stated above.
