This is an exciting position appropriate for early career applicants interested in climate change adaptation, and specifically sea level rise. The role is an integral member of the Resilient Hampton Initiative, a values-driven, interdisciplinary team of dedicated municipal professionals.

The individual in this position will be responsible for a variety of tasks including organizing opportunities for community input into resiliency plans, reviewing and providing feedback on project designs, tracking and reporting data on the impacts of flooding and climate change, developing grant proposals, and more.

We’re looking for someone with a bachelor’s degree and one year of work experience in relevant fields. This is a full-time, salaried position working in-person at Hampton’s City Hall.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor’s degree in business or public administration, urban planning, public policy, urban design, emergency management, engineering, environmental sciences or a related field required.

Minimum of one (1) year of direct work experience in economic development, sustainability-based economic development, urban or regional planning, emergency preparedness or environmental and/or sustainability programs is required and may have been obtained through part-time work or internships.

The following list of experience is preferred: creating graphics for outreach, project management, grants administration, and coastal flood mitigation and resiliency experience. This experience may be obtained through professional, academic, or volunteer roles and capacities.

Demonstrated knowledge of natural hazards and the impacts of climate change on the Hampton Roads region. Demonstrated ability to communicate with diverse stakeholders, including the public. Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

A criminal background check and acceptable driving record based on the City of Hampton’s driving criteria is required prior to any official offer of employment or promotion.
