Position/Title/Fund: Survey: Climate Change Impacts and Adaptation Needs in U.S. Northeast Coastal and Marine Systems
Description:

We at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst are conducting a study to better understand climate change impacts and climate adaptation science needs in coastal and marine systems across the Northeastern U.S. and Eastern Canada, titled: Climate Change Impacts and Adaptation Needs in U.S. Northeast Coastal and Marine Systems, conducted by Dr. Alysha B. Putnam at the University of Massachusetts Amherst.

Our goal is to identify key knowledge gaps and barriers to implementation so that future research and adaptation efforts are useful, actionable, and aligned with the real-world challenges facing these systems. As we know, the intersection of climate change and invasive species is very important and is included in this survey!

Why are we doing this research study?

Coastal and marine ecosystems are undergoing rapid environmental change, including sea level rise, ocean warming, and increasing storm intensity. These shifts have far-reaching effects on biodiversity, physical habitats, and ecosystem function. To manage and adapt to these changes effectively, we need to understand where the knowledge gaps are.

Adaptation science is most useful when it’s informed by the real-world needs of those studying and working in these systems. As a coastal and marine researcher, practitioner, decision-maker, or community member, your insights are essential for identifying and prioritizing those needs. Your responses will help us highlight key gaps and barriers that must be addressed to support more effective, collaborative climate research and adaptation efforts across the region.

Who can participate in this study?

Natural resource managers, ecological practitioners, researchers, and community members within the U.S. and Canada ages 18 and older may participate in this survey. Your insights will help guide future research and ensure it is responsive to the most pressing issues facing coastal and marine systems.

Responses to this study will remain confidential.
