Tribal Climate Listening Session - Relocation, Managed Retreat, Protect-in-Place in Alaska

Opportunity Type: Other

The Department of the Interior (DOI) is excited to announce an upcoming virtual listening session focused on relocation, managed retreat, and protection-in-place issues in Alaska. This session will facilitate a discussion on the information and resources needed to address this issue across the Department of the Interior. It's meant to elevate the voices and concerns of Alaska Native Tribal leadership, tribal staff, tribal members, tribal compact, and Alaska Native Corporations affected by these issues.

The questions below are intended to help participants develop and prepare comments for the session:

  • What are the evaluation and assessment needs to assist with the community’s decision-making process?
  • What barriers does your Tribal community face when working with federal or state government agencies to protect your community?
  • What can DOI do to improve your community’s access to funding for relocation, managed retreat, and protect-in-place activities?

Dates: held in two three-hour sessions on December 1-2

  • Wednesday, December 1, 1:00 – 4:00 pm AKST
  • Thursday, December 2, 9:00 am – 12:00 pm AKST
