NatureServe Vista® is a free, ArcGIS extension that automates advanced spatial analyses for planners and managers. It is a highly capable decision-support system that helps users integrate conservation with many types of planning, ecosystem based management, ecosystem based adaptation, and scenario-based planning. Specific types of planning examples include land use and natural resource management, marine spatial planning and marine protected areas, infrastructure and transportation, energy development, and climate change adaptation. Vista covers the breadth of the assessment, planning, plan implementation, and adaptive management decision processes and is particularly strong in characterizing scenarios and conducting cumulative effects assessment and mitigation. Users can characterize their features of interest, integrate expert knowledge, create and evaluate different spatial scenarios to determine where and how their values are supported or threatened, and develop site mitigations or complete new alternatives to best achieve planning objectives.

Example in use for adaptation: Climate Refugia in the Central Basin of Southern Nevada

NatureServe Vista plays an important role in aiding the integration of conservation efforts with many types of planning, including land-use planning, natural resource management, energy development, and more. This free and widely used tool has helped managers and planners assess and create options for landscapes and seascapes.

NatureServe is a non-profit conservation organization whose mission is to provide the scientific basis for effective conservation action.
