Abstract

This report describes the methods and findings of sediment input source mapping and shoreline restoration/protection prioritization along the shorelines of Kitsap County (County), excluding the City of Bainbridge Island. The project was conducted as part of the Kitsap Regional Shoreline Restoration Project grant that the County received from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). The objectives of the EPA‐funded effort are to support local initiatives to identify, prioritize, garner support for, and restore shoreline processes. The impetus for the project stems from concerns about the extensive shoreline armoring that has occurred along the County’s marine shorelines, and the effects this has on nearshore ecosystems (Shipman 2010). The specific concern being addressed by this project is the interruption of natural sediment input, transport, and deposition processes that has been caused by the shoreline armoring.
